Associate Member (AMIW)
If you are a student on one of our welfare courses, you are
entitled to become an Associate Member of the Institute.
Holders of the Certificate or Diploma in Welfare Studies with
less than two years' experience in welfare practice are also Associate
Members.

Member (MIW)
To become a full Member of the Institute, you
must have had at least two years' experience in welfare practice
and hold the Diploma in Welfare Studies or the equivalent. Once
a full Member, you are entitled to put the letters MIW after your
name.

Fellow (FIW)
To become a Fellow of the Institute, you must
have been a Member for five years or more and hold the Diploma
in Welfare Studies or the equivalent. In effect, this means you
will have been a practising welfare officer for at least seven
years (given that you must have two years' practical experience
before becoming eligible to be a Member). You must have made a
significant contribution to the Institute or in the field of welfare
services. Subject in each individual case to the approval of our
Management Committee, Fellows are entitled to put the letters
FIW after their name.

Companion (CIW)
To become a Companion of the Institute is the
highest grade of membership. This prestigious award is entirely
within the gift of the Institute and reflects outstanding achievement
in the field of welfare. Holders of this honour are entitled to
use the designation CIW.

* Membership subscription: £50
* Student membership subscription: £30
You can pay your fees by cheque, standing order. Payments are due
by 1st January for the following twelve months. Members who have achieved
accreditation pay an extra £10 for its renewal.

All Members of the Institute are required to commit themselves to
the Institute's Code
of Ethics and Code
of Practice.

These are issued bi-annually. Accredited members of the Institute
are admitted to a professional register and remain on that register
subject to an annual review of their:
* proven continuous professional development;
* competent and ethical practice; and
* continuing commitment to the Institute's Code
of Ethics and Code
of Practice.

.Our
quarterly newspaper is mailed directly to your home or, if
you are a student, to you via your local college. This publication
is intended to keep Members abreast of the Institute's many
and varied activities, as well as news of general developments
in the world of welfare.

(whether commercial, professional or private). If you are
